Consanguinity Chart
For a true "relationship" to exist, there must be an ancestor who is common to both individuals.

Let us suppose that you have a grandson of that common ancestor and you want to know that grandson's relationship to a great-granddaughter. Go across to the second generation (Grandson or daughter) and then down to the third generation (Great Grandson or Daughter), the resulting relationship is 'First Cousin Once Removed.'
