Press Releases

Long-form Press Release

Family history and genealogy enthusiasts from across the Upper Midwest will converge 1-2 October for the 14th annual North Star Genealogy Conference being held virtually in Minnesota.

The conference theme, "Link to the Past, Path to the Future" focuses on the rewards of researching family history and passing it forward to future generations. Sponsored by the Minnesota Genealogical Society, the conference features presentations by D. Joshua Taylor, plus 23 how-to classes on topics such as DNA, fraternity organizations, new online tools, and breaking down brick walls.

For more than 20 years D. Joshua Taylor has been discovering – and sharing – the incredible connections that can be made through genealogy and family history. As host of the popular series Genealogy Roadshow (PBS) he crisscrosses the United States – solving longstanding family history mysteries and uncovering genealogical treasures at every turn. Since February 2016, Joshua has been the President of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society (NYG&B), America’s second oldest genealogical organization, headquartered in New York City.

The conference, which is open to the general public, features two other special events. A special "pre-conference", which is included in the registration price, on September 30 with classes on State Censuses and getting a head start on the 50s .

At the Minnesota Genealogical Society's annual MGS Awards Banquet Friday evening, October 1, the Society will present awards for volunteer service to MGS and for outstanding achievements by Minnesota genealogists.

Complete program information is available at www.mngs.org. Registration will open early summer.

With over 800 members, The Minnesota Genealogical Society is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that helps Minnesotans and people with Minnesota connections discover their family history.
