Family history and genealogy enthusiasts from across the Upper Midwest will converge October 4th and 5th for the 12th annual North Star Genealogy Conference at the Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West in Plymouth, Minnesota.
 
Featured speaker John Colletta, regarded as one of America’s great family history story tellers, is best known for his book Only a Few Bones, a colorful account of what happened to his carpetbagger ancestors in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, after the Civil War. Colletta is also a leading expert on American immigration and Italian genealogy.
 
In addition to Colleta, the conference offers 20 breakout sessions by leading Minnesota genealogists on a wide variety of genealogy research topics by leading Minnesota genealogists.
 
The conference theme, "Generations Celebrations" marks the 50th anniversary of the Minnesota Genealogical Society. “MGS has helped generations of Minnesotans and people with Minnesota heritage discover their family history over the past 50 years,” said MGS president Jay Fonkert. “The North Star conference is an exciting time to both celebrate our first half century and look forward to our next 50 years.”
 
David Rencher, Chief Genealogical Officer of FamilySearch, will speak at a 50th Anniversary Celebration and Awards Banquet, Friday evening, October 4. MGS will present annual awards for service to MGS and for contributions to the Minnesota genealogy community.
