Do you have old family letters and documents waiting to be explored?

Artificial intelligence can assist you in analyzing and researching your family’s personal archives, on paper or online. Whether you need to summarize large documents to easily identifying names and relationships, or to develop a "cast of characters" or timeline in complex documents, AI tools can make your research more efficient and effective. Get familiar with terms like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and more. We will discuss how to use some of the most powerful AI tools available to genealogists today, such as transcription and translation, being mindful of accuracy and sourcing. We will also explore how the major research websites are providing new tools for us, using related technology.

Mark will explain how AI can "lighten the load" of research and help you reveal rich history deep in your family archive!

Presenter: Mark Thompson is a professional genealogist and speaker specializing in the application of artificial intelligence to genealogy. He co-hosts the Family History AI Show podcast (link) with Steve Little, which helps genealogists bridge the gap between high technology and their family history research.

Mark has a unique perspective on the rapidly evolving field of AI-assisted research as an IT executive. He is President of the Victoria Genealogical Society (British Columbia, CAN) and chairs their DNA Special Interest Group. A member of APG, Mark is a frequent presenter on tech-related genealogy topics including AI, genetic genealogy, family archiving, and Microsoft Excel. When not exploring family histories, he enjoys photography.

After immigrating to America, many of our ancestors settled in, stayed for awhile, or at least passed through the Chicagoland area. With this in mind, the National Danish-American Genealogical Society is presenting a "virtual field trip" to explore the genealogical resources at the Newberry Library of Chicago.

The Newberry's stacks bulge with maps, family papers, genealogies, railroad archives and much, much more. Learn what’s available for your U.S. and European forebears and how to access it in person or from a distance. The talk will include some highlights of Danish-American material. Speaker Grace  Dumelle is a longtime staffer in the Local and Family History section of the Newberry Library in Chicago. She is an alumna of the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research and the author of Finding Your Chicago Ancestors:  A Beginner's Guide to Family History in the City and Cook County.

We welcome you to join us via Zoom for this free webinar on Monday January 27, 2025 at 6:30 pm CST  (link:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88930504990 ).
