Description: Unless you are sure you know the locale of your ancestor’s origin outside North America, it is best to thoroughly research your ancestor’s American or Canadian life before jumping across the ocean (or border). It is not enough to know your ancestor came from Norway or Italy – you will almost certainly need to know at least a province or county, if not a specific locality in which to search. This webinar focuses on European origins, but the same principles apply for immigrants from other parts of the world.
About the Presenter: J. H. “Jay” Fonkert, CG® researches Norwegian Morstads, Swedish Falks, German Rombkes, English Tidballs, Dutch Zorgdragers, and Kentucky Fawkners from his home in Roseville, Minnesota. He has presented at major national and regional conferences, lectured in a dozen states, taught at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, and published more than 80 research and teaching articles, including four in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly. He is co-managing editor Minnesota Genealogist and a past-president of the Minnesota Genealogical Society.
