Presented by Peggy Clemens Lauritzen, sponsored by the Minnesota Genealogical Society.

Audience Level – All

Description:
Those metal signs you see on old buildings or the brown metal historic markers by the side of the road may offer clues to the lives of your ancestors. With more than 96,000 properties listed, the National Register began in 1966 and was authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act. It became part of a program to coordinate, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources. Almost every county in the United States has at least one place listed.

About the Speaker:
Peggy Clemens Lauritzen, AG, FOGS, has an amazing ability to bring laughter into the lives of her audience being a frequent lecturer at many societies in Ohio, Family History seminars, BYU, ICAPGen, and all of the national organizations. One of her favorite photos is of her pregnant mother on her way to a church picnic, then on to cemetery transcribing. It was taken just 4 days before Peggy was born. Definitely an early start to Peggy’s genealogy career! She authored Legacy QuickGuides on Appalachia, she was filmed as an instructor for Ancestry Academy, Family Tree University, and is a featured columnist in Reminisce magazine. Peggy was named Fellow of the Ohio Genealogical Society and honored with the Laura G. Prescott Award for Exemplary Service to Professional Genealogy by the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG). She is a former researcher at Ancestry ProGenealogists. Miss Peggy’s last MGS webinar was on 1 September 2021 — “Putting America to Work: Records of the WPA (Works Progress Administration) and the CCC.” The recording is available in the members-only area of the MGS website.
